I also looked into the possibility that the US gov't. may have procured subsonic .22 Hornet cartridges at some time prior to the JFK assassination, but this appears to be nothing more than a very minor internet rumor. I am now considering a broader range of possibilites in muzzle report and bullet velocities. Another researcher posting on the JFK Lancer site has presented good evidence of balistic bone damage to parts of JFK's 7th cervical and first thoracic vertebrae. I was able to help him interpret the X-Rays, and his work has helped me out quite a bit as well. It takes energy to daage bones, so the speed of the bullet that did the damage may have been higher than I'd estimated. This means that the upward reassessment of muzzle report in the low power shots may still be consistent with the effects seen in JFK's thoracic wound.
Not much other news this week, except that I think I've figured out a way to greatly simplify the process of making the Bad Bore Minie Ball. I'll have to get more materials, but may be able to try out the simplified approach within the next couple of weeks.
